Pure speculations are sometimes fun...
So, lately I have been thinking about G and holidays. My own ideas on holidays are morphing and swirling at this time. What was his view on them? How did he treat them? Did he celebrate any specific holidays? If so, how did he do it? Did he celebrate the holidays for his students, did he use them as a tool, did he use them as an excuse to drink Armagnac? I am sure, as in everything, there was a purpose. What have you read or learned that would give insight into this speculation?

Re: Holidays
Mon, December 4, 2006 - 4:55 AMWell, one anecdote is.... one time some of G's students spent much time and effort decorating a Christmas tree all "nice, nice" and G told them it was all wrong- told them to take off the decorations, hang the tree upside down from the ceiling and paint it black...per C.S. Nott. However, he was also known to hand out gifts in the holiday way. My husband mentioned that he was more apt to celebrate Orthodox Christian holidays, most likely because of his childhood background.
